Take three women in need of cash, a slew of money about to be shredded, and a plot that nicks a bit from 2005's Fun with Dick and Jane and you've got Mad Money. Diane Keaton stars as Bridget, a stay-at-home wife whose life as she knows it ends when her husband loses his cushy, high-paying job. Her college degree in literature turns out to be useless, so she accepts a janitorial position at the local bank. There she meets Nina (Queen Latifah) and Jackie (Katie Holmes), who could use some spare scratch as well. Suddenly, it dawns on Bridget that the bank has plenty of what they need: money! Because the gals are so cute and nice, it's clear they're not really going to rob the bank. What they will do, though, is take the old bills headed for the shredder and recycle it back into the economy by spending it. (Oh heck, they're basically stealing the money.) Played for laughs, the movie doesn't bother to discuss the economic ramifications of what would happen if too much money was recirculated, but that's neither here nor there. The trio of personable actors--particularly Keaton--does a good job of making the characters likable, even in some unbelievable situations. But Keaton deserves better than Mad Money, which isn't really funny enough to be a comedy and doesn't have enough romance to qualify as good chick flick. Still, Keaton, Latifah and Holmes share warm camaraderie. It'd be fun to see them reunited in a film that had a little more weight to it. Ironically, Mad Money was directed by directed by Callie Khouri, who wrote Thelma & Louise and Something to Talk About--movies that had all the key components (compelling storyline and characters worth cheering on) that Mad Money is lacking. --Jae-Ha Kim

He's right, but the ladies find the work even more emotionally demanding than physically repulsive, especially once they become entangled with Lynn (24's Mary Lynn Rajskub), a lonely blood-bank worker, and Winston (Capote's Clifton Collins Jr.), a one-armed cleaning-supply salesman. Megan Holley's script may be a mite overstuffed, but the pace never lags, and Christine Jeffs' follow-up to Sylvia packs an emotional punch that Little Miss Sunshine--arguably, the funnier film--lacked, even if the Oscar-winning Arkin plays a similarly unconventional grandfather figure. I think that we all can agree on the simple fact that house cleaning can be a chore. It can be even more daunting and tiresome when we are not effectively organized in our cleaning methods. The purpose of a cleaning list is simply to help us not have to remember what needs to be cleaned, and when something needs to be cleaned. Let's start with the daily house cleaning checklist. How to Professionally Clean Your House Fast

Cleaning houses professional was one of the best/worst jobs I ever had in my life. The work wasn't that hard- not as hard as you would expect- but cleaning up other people's dirt wasn't my idea of fun. That was the worst of it. I say it was one of the "best" jobs I ever had because I learned how to efficiently clean my own house. I learned that you can actually clean your house in no time at all...as long as you use some of the secrets of the pros. And that same knowledge has sure helped make my house cleaning easier and less time consuming!

Housework is a fact of life, but it need not consume your life if you just know the secrets of how to do it right.

The first secret you need to know is that you can save an incredible amount of time if you carry some of your cleaning products, as well as tools, with you. To do this, you need to make yourself a supply apron. This apron should consist of several large, deep pockets. (A kitchen apron usually doesn't have enough pockets. Therefore, you can sew up your own apron. Or, you can check your local home supply store for a carpenter's apron.) In these pockets, you will carry your dusting spray, glass cleaner, rags, and so forth.

Before you actually start to clean, you will also need a few soft, cotton gloves, or some old white cotton socks. The gloves or socks make great dusting cloth! And, they can be worn over one of your hands the entire time you're cleaning your house. Just spray some furniture polish on the glove or sock, and it's easy to wipe off tables, woodwork, knick knacks, as you go along.

Here's a second secret: You'll also need to buy some laundry baskets in different colors. Each member of the household needs his or her own basket. Plus, you'll need a small basket to carry with you. (You can buy laundry baskets at your local dollar store for cheap.) Place a laundry basket in each person's bedroom. You'll find out the purpose of the laundry baskets shortly.

Beat the House-Cleaning Blues

It's not difficult to find advice on how to clean and organize, and what products to use for what chore. There's Mom, Grandma, Mrs. Smith next door, Mr. Jones down at the hardware store, and hundreds of books and articles on the subject!

But the single most common reason why major household cleaning efforts fail -- lack of preparation to do the job at hand that leads to frustration, lost time and wasted effort -- is often overlooked in advice columns and how-to books.

As with any other human endeavor, planning pays off. So before you dive in to that unspeakable attic mess or tackle that maze of a kitchen cupboard, consider these six time-tested planning tips to make the task easier ... and even enjoyable!

1. Do something pleasantly different

Instead of assaulting your senses and the environment with a literally dizzying array of cleaning chemicals, consider taking a morning to prepare some herbal and natural cleaning solutions this year.

Some natural disinfectants include rosemary and lemon, and the leaves and stems of thyme and sage. Cloves, lavender, orange, peppermint and sandalwood also have antiseptic powers.

You can use six drops or so of their essential oils, mixed with a teaspoon of isopropyl alcohol and a quart of lukewarm water.

You can also cook up a great smelling, spirit-lifting disinfectant by culling the leaves and stems of rosemary, eucalyptus, thyme, sage or lavender, and letting the mixture simmer for an hour. Simply strain out the solids and let the mixture cool. You'll love the fresh scent and the gentle way the solution cleans your spaces!

The sweet, nutty seeds of the fern-like Sweet Cicely plant can be crushed to yield a wonderfully aromatic natural furniture polish. Pulverize the seeds, then scoop up a handful in a soft cloth and admire the gentle way it coaxes shine from wood!

2. Be alone and enjoy it!

You'd never try to clean a keyboard while someone's typing, or clean your oven while preparing Thanksgiving dinner. It's a mystery why so many well-meaning people think they can clean a room or a closet with other people coming and going!

How to Use Non-Toxic Cleaners to Clean Your House

There are numerous non-toxic solutions that you can use around the house. Not only is this safer to use but it is great on your budget. To start with did you know that there are many uses for baking soda and vinegar? For example a combination of vinegar and baking soda can be used to scrub your stove and counter tops. You can also use a spray bottle of vinegar and mix with hydrogen peroxide to sanitize your countertops before scrubbing them down. Another use for vinegar is to mix with water and use to wash your kitchen floors. This works really well to clean your floors. Some moms have also used vinegar as a fabric softener. Of course your clothes will not be as soft as store bought fabric softener, but it is better than nothing. Many of these cleaning products are referred to as homemade cleaning products. The fumes from commercial cleansers can sometimes be harmful to young children or those with chronic health problems.

Another tip is club soda which can be used as a glass cleaner, although it will not have that nice fresh scent. You can also purchase non-toxic laundry detergent. It cleans your clothes and is a lot safer for your family. When mixing your own homemade cleaners be sure to use 50% water in all of your mixes. Some moms however do not like to have their house smelling like vinegar. To fix this problem you can add a little bit of lavender oil to your water, vinegar mix prior to cleaning. Make sure you don't put too much lavender it may overwhelm you. When using baking soda to clean your floors sprinkle the baking soda first then add the water and start scrubbing. It really does not take long to clean your floor, but it will definitely get clean. Try searching online for frugal websites, there is a large resource of websites that offer tips and suggestions on how to clean your home with your own homemade non-toxic cleaners. I would also suggest looking at a few books. Your local book store or library should have a large amount of books on this topic. This is really something that would be worth your time especially if you are looking to save money.

Spring Cleaning of Your House Step by Step

My grandmother was a human cleaning tornado. She lovingly raised eight kids on daily home cooked meals while keeping a full vegetable/flower garden, some small livestock, and a spotless house. No one dust-sneezed in her house...ever.

I kept my eye on her as I did my share of chores and watched the secrets of her household success unfold. I've organized what she taught me into a ten-step program that can make basic spring-cleaning a breeze. Some of these tips will keep your house smelling and looking fresh all year long. These are basic spring-cleaning steps but; with the exception of rugs and curtains, this cleaning can be done weekly.

Before you begin, gather supplies. Essentials include:

1. A roomy basket or sturdy box for collecting things that have been "misplaced".

2. A vacuum cleaner or broom

3. A bucket with the following cleaning supplies: (I keep one under my bathroom sink all the time because I'm too lazy to look for supplies each time I need to clean.) Paper towels or a "shammy" (chamois leather is lint free)
Multi surface or window cleaner
Paintbrush -for dusting books and nooks
Toothbrush -for scrubbing stains
Putty knife- removes gum, tar, mud and dried food
Kitchen sized garbage bag- empty individual trash cans and found garbage into it
Spray bottle filled with water and one teaspoon of baking soda
Large damp washcloth or rag.
Furniture polish or stain remover (optional- my family hates the smell)
Toilet cleaner

To save time follow these steps:1. Take down curtains and remove throw rugs in every room and either wash them or send them out to be cleaned before starting spring-cleaning. They hold a lot of pollutants and there is no reason to spring-clean if toxins will remain!

2. Squirt toilets and stains with cleaners and allow it to sit while you do other rooms for additional disinfecting. If you are doing your oven this is also an excellent time to spray it so the chemicals can be working with you.

House Cleaning 101: From the Toilet to the Microwave

Getting married? Moving into your first home? Lived in your place awhile but can’t seem to get a handle on cleaning the house? Not sure how often you should do it? Or what to do? Can’t afford a maid? As a wife, mother, and former teacher, I can give you advice on the basics of housekeeping.

I grew up in a home with my mother and grandmother. They were both neat freaks. I was the typical messy teenager, and they picked up after me (lucky me!). Then I married and left home and suddenly had a home of my own. And after a couple of weeks, I looked around and thought, “This place sure is messy and dirty!” It was then that I had two thoughts. The first was I am going to have to clean it, and the second was, I have no idea how! You may be thinking the same thing. Housekeeping is not rocket science, but when you have no idea where to begin or when to do what, it can be frustrating. What cleaners do I buy? What else do I need?

The first rule of housekeeping is it’s easier to do your housekeeping weekly. If you are at home during the week, do some each day. If you work, you can get it all done on a Saturday morning, and then not worry about it the rest of the week. So where to begin?

As with any job, you need the right equipment. There are as many brands of cleaners and different preferences to those cleaners as there are people. I can give you some basics, but you may find others you like better. First you need a broom, a dustpan, a vacuum (if you have carpet), some old cloths (old T-shirts work great), a spray bottle of window cleaner, some pine-oil cleaner, a spray bottle of bathroom surface cleaner, some furniture polish, a mop bucket, and a sponge. (I use a sponge with the nylon net sewn on one side for scrubbing without scratching.) You will also need a toilet brush and some paper towels. If price is a problem, some household cleaners can be made. There are many websites that can tell you how to make natural cleaners from products like baking soda and vinegar.

Central Vacuum Systems: Making Housework Easier

One of the most tedious and therefore disagreeable housekeeping jobs is running the vacuum cleaner. One has to carry a heavy, portable vacuum cleaner from room to room, plug it in, and then vacuum the floor. Afterwords one has to empty the bag of dust and other debris, a messy job under the best of circumstances.

While the time when one's house will clean itself is still far off, there is a bit of technology available right now that will make vacuuming the house a lot easier. Just as homes now have central air conditioning and central heating, homes can now, with a little expense and work, have central vacuuming. Oddly enough, these systems have been available for the past fifty years.

How Does Central Vacuuming Work?

A central vacuum system consists of a number of parts. Spaced about the house, each covering about six hundred square feet of floor space, are inlets installed into the wall at floor level. The inlets are connected to tubing that snake behind the walls to a central power unit, in the utility room, basement, or garage, and a central receptacle. One would have a power hose with attached brush or another attachment that would connect to each inlet in turn for vacuuming. Each inlet might also have a built in dust pan so that one could just sweep dust and other debris into the inlet, best in rooms like kitchens which do not have carpets on the floors.

After the receptacle, which would be either a canister or bag, is full, one would just empty it unto the trash, which manufacturers claim would happen about once every three months. The system is controlled either by an on/off switch on the hose or by just attaching the hose to the inlet, obviating the need to turn on the central power unit every time one goes to a new room. The brush that is attached to the end of the hose is used to loosen dust and debris from a carpet being cleaned.

Clean Up Your House in 30 Minutes or Less

You just got off the phone with your sister and she is coming over, with her kids, and they are on the way. They are going to stop at the store first and then come over so it will be about 40 minutes until they arrive. But, your house is a wreck, so what do you do? Well, it's obvious that you need a really quick clean up, but you don't have the time. In 15-20 minutes you can clean up your entire house and still have time to put on lipstick or get dressed. When surprise company calls it can put you into a tailspin, but not if you have a good plan.

So what's the big secret? Even if your closets and rooms behind closed doors are full of crap you home can still appear to be clean. The secret is that no one has to know about the crap. Part of your plan will be to clean the "guest" areas of your home, and the trick is to hide everything else. Remember when you were a kid and your parents told you to clean your room but you wanted to play? So you stuffed everything under the bed and in the closet so that your room appeared to be clean in just minutes. This is the same technique.

Here's a list of the things you will need before you start your quick clean up:

• Duster
• All purpose cleaner and paper towels
• Broom/Vacuum
• Basket or Laundry Bag
• A Damp Sponge

The first thing that you want to do is grab your basket or laundry bag and start walking through your home as a guest would do. Start at the front door and work your way through each room, just as your sister and her children will do. As you walk through each room pick up the clutter and put it in the bag or basket. Pick up shoes from the entry way, junk mail in the kitchen or dining room, grab the clutter in the living room like toys or dirty dishes, and then hide the basket in the bottom of a closet or behind a bedroom door until after your guests leave. This should take about 5 minutes, unless you have a really large home and now you are ready to clean the rest of the house.

Let's discuss an area that can make a clean room look cleaner, or worse, still dirty. That area would be the floors. They are walked on, spilled on, and serve as a catch-all for pretty much anything. Especially carpets, which can be in even worse condition. If removing them is not an option, nor is covering the whole thing with rugs, here are three simple techniques to make keeping it cleaner, easier.

Tip 1. A tape roller lint brush works great on stairs and in the corners. In a pinch, wrap masking tape around your hand a few times. The attachments you have don't always reach where they are needed most. They may be missing. Whatever the case may be, go over those hard to reach areas as you would with a vacuum. Run the brush in several directions. Just as the tape gets hair off of your clothes, it does an equally fine job on carpets.

Tip 2. Use an iron and plain paper towels to remove candle wax. If your paper towels have printed designs, use notebook or typing paper. You will also need a butter knife.After scraping the big pieces out of the way, some wax will still be embedded in the fibers. The heat from the iron will pull a great deal of it up and out. The paper will trap it. Use a medium to hot setting (no steam) and place the paper down on the wax. With firm, even pressure, hold the iron on the paper a few seconds then remove it. Continue, changing the paper as it soaks up the wax. (It is important to get the wax out of your carpet but not at the expense of your iron.) Once the paper comes up clean, there is no more wax in the carpet. There may be a little color left, in which case it is the actual dye from the candle, and that would better be tackled by a professional. (Professional cleaning is also advised for heirloom carpets and rugs.)

The first time you use this method to clean your house you will essentially be priming your house for all future cleanings. You will find from week to week each cleaning session will be come shorter and shorter.

What You Need
The first thing you need is a really good vacuum cleaner. The company I worked for supplied us with lightweight vacuums that sit on your back much like a backpack. It weighs only eight pounds and was very easy to use. These vacuums cost close to a thousand dollars each so they are not realistic for everyone. Just make sure your vacuum has a hose and wand attachment that will reach up to your ceiling and has enough suction for your needs. Some vacuums work well until you try to use an attachment. Buy the most powerful model you can afford. If anyone in your family suffers from allergies you may want to get a model that has a more efficient filtering system than the typical model.
